Dermaplaning

It’s the most requested skin treatment in medical spas across the country and the hottest pre-red carpet go to skincare must, this award season. But what exactly is it and what does it do? It’s a chemical-free exfoliation treatment done with a surgical grade scalpel, but don’t let that scare you. A qualified clinical aesthetician uses specific techniques to remove the dead surface layers of the skin, as well as the soft “peach fuzz” vellus hair we all have. This leaves skin silky smooth. It also stimulates collagen, lightens and brightens the skin, improves penetration of skincare products significantly and leaves skin with a luminous glow you will become addicted to!

Dermaplaning does not cause facial hair to grow in thicker or darker. Only hormonal changes can cause facial hair to do that. These treatments are not painful at all, in fact, our clients enjoy the gentle “scraping” sensation of the surgical steel blade, and find the rhythmic strokes very
relaxing. At the medical spa, we love performing a dermaplane treatment before a peel. Deeper penetration = fantastic results!! We also combine dermaplaning with other corrective skincare treatments to take a client’s complexion to the next level. Clients LOVE this treatment!! Ideally, this treatment is done about every 6 weeks (every skin renewal cycle) and it should always be performed by a trained professional. That’s where you come in. We provide extensive hands on training in our medical aesthetics program. You will be able to experience this treatment on your own skin, as well as perform multiple full face dermaplane treatments on our models during your time at school.

I have been in the Beauty, Health and Wellness industry since becoming a licensed Cosmetologist in 1984. I spent 20 years performing services in the aesthetic field and then in 2001, decided to pursue an education in Massage and Energy Work. In 2008, I went to work for Dr. Donna Wilcox at her medical spa and was introduced to the wonderful things medical aesthetics can do for skin. The products, services and guidance that became available to me there helped me to resolve long standing issues with my skin that I had been struggling with and felt hopeless to ever conquer. This experience lit a fire in me to not only scream from the rooftops how amazing this industry is, but to also somehow teach other industry professionals how to be able to affect this kind of change in their client’s skin and confidence. As it turns out, I was in the right place and with the right person to make that happen! Dr. Wilcox also has a passion for medical aesthetics and a desire to educate as many professionals as she can. We collaborated and designed the Integrative Medical Aesthetics Program of NJ and have been teaching licensed cosmetologists and aestheticians, as well as nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants since 2011, how to do the best they can to make corrective medical skincare available to their patients and clients.
